Neonatal endotracheal tube size

Anaesthesia and Intensive Care

Clinical data underlying recommendations on neonatal endotracheal tube size remain limited. In this multicenter retrospective cohort study, researchers evaluated changes in neonatal endotracheal tube size as a function of weight in infants undergoing tracheal intubation. Changes in size relative to Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) recommendations were tracked within 7 days of intubation. A total of 7,293 intubations were evaluated. Changes in size were observed: 5% with a reduction in tube size, 1.5% with an increase in tube size. Changes in size were more or less frequent depending on the infant's weight.
