Acne vulgaris is a common dermatological condition, affecting adults, adolescents and children aged 9 and over. A working group examined all the data currently available on the management of acne, with the aim of formulating recommendations for practitioners. In total, the experts issued 18 recommendations and 5 statements of good practice in these guidelines. Recommended treatments include benzoyl peroxide, topical retinoids, topical antibiotics and oral doxycycline. Oral isotretinoin should be reserved for severe forms of acne, associated with scarring and significant psychosocial burden for patients.
